What belongs in a first SaaS version?

The first version should let someone complete the core task, give you a way to manage the product and make the important limits clear. Features can be added when they have a defined purpose.

  • The core customer workflow and the screens that support it
  • Accounts, access levels and subscriptions where required
  • An administration area for managing the product

Can the product include a companion app?

Some workflows happen away from a desk. A companion app can support those parts of the job while connecting to the same operational records. FleetPad is an example of a platform paired with a driver app.

How do we avoid building too much?

Define the audience, the problem and a concrete first use case before creating a feature list. Then review a working version and decide what needs to change. A clear scope makes the next decision easier.
